Port Richmond’s Veterans Memorial Gets a Refresh
May 19, 2014
What a busy weekend! Thanks to many, many volunteers and donations, the Tezzi-Reitz Veterans Memorial at the intersection of Aramingo Avenue/Cedar St/Somerset St recently got a refresh. And just in time for memorial day.
Real estate Developer BMK Homes (bmkhomes.com) donated the new Flagpole which was installed on Friday May 16th. That was followed up by several boy scouts (led by Kevin, who was working toward his Eagle Scout status) along with their parents and several representatives from Philadelphia Parks & Recreation planted 2 new Dogwood trees on Sunday May 18th. One on each side of the monument. These trees will bloom every year about the time of memorial day. What a beautiful sight!
Finally on Monday May 19th, a city contractor planted an additional 6 trees – filling every empty tree pit at the triangle. Now as cars whizzz under the Aramingo Avenue RR bridge coming into Port Richmond… they will be greeted with a beautiful new green park. What a nice welcome into the neighborhood.
